Founded by two former fact-checkers at The New Yorker, new title Now Voyager sets out to usher in an era of reporting devoted to international stories that cross borders and—where relevant—expose the connections between them. The publication promises rigorous journalism, research, and fact-checking, without sacrificing creative liberties, spanning long-form writing, photography, art, food, and humour. 

Already touted as ‘ambitious’ by The New York Times—beneath a headline that reads ‘A New Magazine of International Reportage? In This Media Environment?’—Now Voyager sets sail at a time of shifting media landscapes.

This inaugural edition features a bisected front cover, with a fragment from a watercolour painting by Camille Henrot—printed in full-bleed inside—separating its monochrome halves. Opening the issue, readers will find a 14-page spread dedicated to ‘World Matters’, featuring a series of briefings from across the globe. Elsewhere, an interview with the cover artist delves into her practice, discussing her use of phone motifs and the immobilising feeling of being permanently on call; a long-form feature penned by John Gibler follows the disappearance of a woman abducted by a Veracruz drug cartel; a photo editorial by Laura Pannack, titled ‘The Journey Home’, offers a striking exploration of an apartheid that still exists in Cape Town; and Tristan McConnell recounts the story of one man’s passionate quest to reclaim an ‘unpromising waterway’ in East London.
